I have come across several articles that identify clairaudience as when that little voice inside your head says something is going to happen. Personally I think this definition muddies the waters. That little voice inside your head might certainly be a message from a spirit guide, but it can also be your subconscious working hard in the background and suddenly putting two and two together. Kind of like when you are certain you know the solution to a problem but just can't drag it into the light of day until you turn your attention to something else and then - presto - the answer is suddenly right there in front of you.
Truly hearing a voice - an auditory experience that makes you look over your shoulder to see who snuck into the room when you weren't looking - that's what I consider to be a caliraudient experience. Sometimes this occurs when there is an important message to be shared; but it can also be a simple sharing of love and affection - perhaps from a spirit guide or maybe from a recently departed.
For me, clairaudient experiences occurred mostly in my preteen years. I would be busily setting up toy soldiers for battle or rescuing my missing teddy bear from beneath the bed when I would hear a feminine voice. Typically I would hear only enough to make me stick my head into the hall and shout What do you want,Mom, the reply from Mom would be I didn't say anything. Which would leave me wondering just who I had heard.
After a few such occurrences I started asking "the air" say that again. I don't remember ever having received a repeated message, but there were several times when I was infused with what I could only describe as a warm well-being.
